Traders of Venice emblem: a golden ship with a winged lion on its sail.

A Renaissance trading adventure for iPhone and iPad

Buy low. Travel far. Sell high.

You start in Venice with fifty florins. Salt is cheap here, and in Tunis they pay dearly for it. Turn that first cargo into ships, warehouses and trade routes across ten cities.

The market in Venice.

Every city has too much of one thing and too little of another.

  1. Buy where it is abundant

Venice has more salt than it knows what to do with. Goods tagged Abundant are cheap where you stand.

  2. Carry it

Pick a destination and set out. Days pass on the road. How much you carry and how fast you get there depend on what you own.

  3. Sell where it is scarce

Tunis is short of salt and pays for it. Goods tagged Scarce fetch the best prices.

That is the whole idea. The rest is your judgment.

The market answers back.

Buy heavily and the price climbs. Flood a city and it falls. Leave a market alone for a few days and it recovers.

Fairs, gluts, shortages and embargoes come and go, city by city.

Ten cities. Ten goods. One map.

From London to Alexandria, each city has one good in abundance and one in short supply. Learn the pairs and the map turns into a plan.

The game's map: an antique-style chart of the Mediterranean marking Venice, Florence, Genoa, Milan, Rome, Naples, Marseille, Tunis, Alexandria and London, with a scroll listing what each city has in abundance and what it lacks.
The game's own map. Cities are lettered in Latin on the map and named in English everywhere else.

From a bag to a fleet.

You set out on foot with room for ten units of cargo. Buy bags, a horse, a wagon, then small, medium and large ships. Each one lets you carry more, and anything with legs, wheels or a sail beats walking.

All of it is bought with florins you earn by trading.

Then put the fortune to work.

Trade routes

Hire riders, drivers and captains, and give each a horse, a wagon or a ship. Their routes pay you every day, whether you are travelling or waiting.

Warehouses

Buy one in any city, in three sizes. Give it a manager, a driver and a wagon, and you can stockpile goods there and sell them from anywhere.

Specialists

An accountant shows your profit on every unit. A wagon driver gets your wagon there sooner.

The Medici Bank

Short of capital? The bank will lend it. The interest is charged daily.

The road has opinions.

About one journey in seven, something happens on the way. There are 103 travel events on the road and at sea: corsairs, a petty lord's toll, a wayward monk, a ship becalmed. Each is a choice, and each choice has consequences.

They are a rare surprise, not a constant interruption. You can turn them off if you prefer.

A crate of finished work must reach a buyer, and he would rather trust a merchant with a cargo to protect than a courier with nothing to lose. He offers a fee, and asks for a deposit against breakage. Two choices: Take the crate (200f deposit), or Decline politely.

A short run or a long reign.

Journey the World

Challenge the Day

One daily challenge, the same for every player on that date, drawn from a pool of 36. Horses only. A strict cap on every sale. A mountain of debt and a fleet full of cinnamon to clear it with. Keep your streak alive.

What do the in-app purchases buy?

Permanent upgrades, and nothing else. There are 11, such as starting a run with a ship, a warehouse or a trade route. Each one can also be earned in play through an achievement. You can buy them one at a time or all together in a bundle. They are one-time purchases: there are no subscriptions and no coins or gems to buy. The whole game is playable without buying anything.

How much does it cost?

The game is priced at $4.99 in the United States; for the price in other countries, see its App Store page.

Which devices does it run on?

iPhone and iPad, with iOS 17 or later.

How long is a game?

You choose. A run lasts 30, 60 or 90 in-game days, or you can play Unlimited with no time limit. A run in progress is saved on your device, so you can put it down and continue later.

Is it hard to learn?

Four tutorial levels teach the game by having you play it, and a 12-section manual is built in. The basic idea fits in a sentence: buy where a good is abundant, sell where it is scarce.

Is it multiplayer?

No. It is a single-player game. The daily challenge is the same for every player on a given date, but you play it on your own.

Can I turn off the travel events?

Yes, in the game's Profile settings. They are rare in any case, about one journey in seven, and they never occur during a challenge.

English.
